ICG Recognizes Minnesota Double Dies
ICG Recognizes Minnesota Double Dies

At least 60 different Double Die Reverse (DDR) Minnesota State Quarters have been discovered over the past few months. The doubling occurs just to the left or right of the fourth tree to the right of the Minnesota state outline. It creates the appearance of an extra tree in the row and is known as the “Extra Tree” DDR. Some are quite obvious to the naked eye, while others take a little magnification.

Independent Coin Grading (ICG) is attributing all of the known varieties. Labels have the standard ICG format and also include “DDR”. An “Extra Rock” variety has also been discovered as well as a “Snow Ball”. In fact, many of the DDRs do not look like trees at all. Because of this ICG will only add “Extra Tree” to Die Numbers 1, 2, 4, 7, 8, 12 and 15 from the Philadelphia Mint and Die number 1 from the Denver Mint as these varieties have the appearance of an extra tree. All others will be labeled as “DDR” with no die number or the “Extra Tree” attribution. As this seems to be an evolving matter, ICG is also accepting submissions for new varieties on the Minnesota “Extra Tree”.

CONECA Service is available for clients looking for Die Numbers on all Minnesota DDRs. To do so, fill out an ICG Submission form and send your MN DDRs to CONECA, 1490 Trail View LN, Frisco, TX 75034. Using CONECA Service is the same price as ICG’s Error Attribution Service.
